What we do

We are a specialist procurement consultancy. With global reach, we work internationally to help companies transform the way they buy products and services - improving purchasing effectiveness, adding value and cutting costs.

We have a strong track record of delivering cost savings and providing lasting benefits to our clients. In most cases we have had a material effect on profitability - we regularly save between 10% and 20% in spend categories where clients have already done a good job, and much more in 'neglected' categories.Platinum

How we do it

We do not have a fixed approach to solving problems - each client and each situation is different. We have a 'tool kit' of analyses and processes that we use as needed, but our success is due to the calibre of our consulting teams and to the way we work:

We have a collaborative approach, and we usually work in teams made up of client managers and occleve consultants. Our largest projects have involved more than 30 people working across the US and Europe, whilst the smallest required the expertise of just one key individual.

We do plenty of analysis and modelling, but because we talk to our clients as we are doing it, the result is a shared understanding and new insights, and not a meaningless database.

As consultants, we are able to challenge the status quo a bit more than employees, and as a result we often come up with creative solutions that improve quality and cut costs.

Finally, we always agree upfront what we are going to deliver, and exactly how it will be measured.Founders

Who we are

The founders of Occleve are Simon Atkinson and Emma Kenny. They were joined by a third partner, Rob Alexander in 2011. All are experienced consultants and general managers.

Before founding Occleve, Simon had clocked up more than 20 years in senior purchasing and General Management roles in the food, drink and hospitality sectors, working with companies such as Mars, Pepsi, Diageo, Compass and Uniq, a convenience food manufacturer. He personally leads our larger or more complex client projects and is involved in scoping and quality controlling every piece of client work.

Emma too has more than 20 years of business experience, including 5 years as a management consultant with McKinsey & Co. After that, she held a number of senior marketing roles with Kingfisher, Vodafone and the Automobile Association, before turning her hand to executive recruitment. Emma takes an active role in business development and project planning, as well as being responsible for the development of our consultant network and for all support functions.

Rob also has extensive senior procurement and consulting experience, including spells with Pricewaterhousecoopers and Accenture. He began his career with Procter and Gamble before moving on to gain experience with a variety of large and small companies including being Group Procurement Director of Uniq, Director of Supply Chain for Europackaging (a private equity backed packaging manufacturer), and most recently as Global Sourcing Director for Carillion. Rob leads a number of client projects and is also responsible for developing new business.

What we won’t do

We won't do free opportunity analyses: our opportunity analyses are very thorough, and even if we did no further work, the output would add more value to the business than the amount we charge for doing it.

We won't work for clients who treat their suppliers in an unethical way: we are tough, but we are always fair and ethical. We value our professional reputation and that of our clients, and won't compromise when it comes to ethics.
